Educational Programs.

AED Placement Program

Our volunteers have worked hard to place 90 Automated External Defibrillators throughout Northeast Arkansas in schools, churches and community facilities, along with training their AED teams in CPR and how to use the AED. The AED has already been used and saved lives where AEDs have been placed. We hope they are never used but glad to place them in case they have to be used!

Community Outreach

CHEF is always in the community helping our community leaders, corporate leaders and health partners when there is a need. We readily participate and partner to present health and wellness programs, health conferences, Northeast Arkansas community health events, church events and children's health.

Corporate Health & Wellness

We are fortunate to have great corporate support, and partnerships, and we are proud to offer health and wellness education any time they have asked. We offer health lunch and learns, health employee newsletters and screenings that can include cholesterol, Alpha 1, blood pressure, glucose and anemia. We also challenge employees to build their team to have a focus on health and wellness through our Corporate Olympics program.

Diabetes Awareness

Our Diabetic Awareness programs are for diabetics, diabetic caregivers and those who think they may have diabetes. We offer educational sessions and free screenings such as A1C, glucose, blood pressure, eye and cholesterol. We have received $15,000 in grants for our work with diabetes

COPD Awareness

Our COPD Awareness programs are for persons with COPD, COP caregivers and those who think they may have COPD. Our programs can include general COPD  information, Alpha 1 Gene screening, spirometer testing and carbon monoxide testing.

Mental Health
First Aid

New in 2019 the CHEF organization decided to add the awareness of mental health as a focus in our educational plans. We are partnering with MidSouth Health Systems to provide this program free to those it targets. Mental Health First Aid is a 4-8-hour course that teaches you how to identify, understand and respond to signs of mental illnesses and substance use disorders. The training gives you the skills you need to reach out and provide initial help and support to someone who may be developing a mental health or substance use problem or experiencing a crisis. We were pleased to train Jonesboro City Employees and Police Officers in our inaugural training.

Women's Health Conference

“Girl Talk” is an annual Women’s Health Conference. The conference has been serving 500-1000 women annually for 15 years. We began the Women’s Heart Health Conference in 2005 and included only screenings for the heart such as blood pressure, cholesterol, glucose and EKG. In 2007, in an effort to increase numbers attending and demographics, he name changed to the Women’s Health Conference and we added other screening options that included carotid artery, peripheral vascular disease, mammograms, osteoporosis, eye, hearing, dental, BMI and fitness. Each year there are 10-14 educational sessions on various topics ranging from women and heart disease, effective diet plans, smoking cessation, diabetes, cancer, effective exercise plans, stress, heart healthy cooking, depression and hormones

Women & Heart Disease

NHLBI The Heart Truth program and the Community Health Education Foundation have partnered for the past 16 years to bring awareness of women and heart disease to our community. The work we do through the program has been recognized four times at the Mercedes Benz National Red Dress Show in New York City.  We have also received over $200,000 in grants from the NHLBI for our work. Arkansas Department of Health Chronic Disease Program granted us $80,000 over a 3-year period to help us start this dynamic program for Northeast Arkansas.

Although women and heart disease statistics has had notably decreased, and the percentage of women who recognize heart disease as the Number 1 killer of women has doubled in the last 8 years, it’s still the Number 1 killer of women and there is more work to do.

CHEF has joined in and helped other community nonprofits when asked for help, such as Susan G Komen, Craighead County Breast Cancer Support Group, St Jude’s and more, in many different  situations and events. We support all around good health and believe in many situations helping others promote health topics is as important as doing our own.
